Jeans: Finding the Perfect Fit

Jeans are one of the hottest clothing items on the market and are a must-have fashion item. Finding a pair of jeans that fits perfectly would be a dream come true for most women but sometimes can be an exercise in frustration. On average women own 7 – 8 pairs of jeans and are usually not satisfied with the comfort or fit of either pair.

For those who do not feel comfortable wearing low-rise jeans, nor look good in them there is some good news - the waists of jeans are rising.

Here are some ideas to find the perfect fit:

1. Realize that finding the perfect jeans could take some time; which means you will have to try a lot of pairs to get a pair that fits you well and you find comfortable. When you decide you’re ready to find the perfect jeans go shopping for that one item only and try as many styles as you can.

2. The sizes of jeans may vary a little from your normal pant size. Don’t despair it’s only a number.

3. To create a longer looking leg, choose dark denim with a long inseam and wear them with pointy-toe boot or shoe.

4. To conceal a large tummy wear jeans that end about one inch below the belly button. Also, a tunic top or shirt that flows over the waist area and ends at the hip will take the attention away from the tummy.

5. To make a flat bottom look more round choose medium rise jeans with back pockets and avoid those with a high rise.

Fashion and Beauty Tips for Work

1. Go to work prepared. When you wear a skirt keep a pair of hose with you in case you get snag or run. Also, keep a pair of high heels at the office for unexpected after work invitations.

2. For the office or travel have a second set of cosmetics. You won’t need to have everything, just enough to do touch ups.

3. Clothing worn a little loose will make you look thinner. Clothing that is too tight is uncomfortable and will make you look larger.

4. Iridescent shadows will bring attention to sagging lids or wrinkles. Choose a shadow that has a matte finish.

5. A great suit will give you instant authority. Choose one in a classic style that fits well and suits your body type.

6. The wrong shoes can ruin your image. Choose a pair that is compatible your look and has a heel that will allow you to walk with a confident stride and not throw you off balance.

7. To feel your best, if possible schedule all your important meetings for mornings when your makeup is the freshest. If you do have an important meeting later in the day, retouch and refresh your makeup around noon.

How to Choose the Right Stockings

Looking well put together and stylish is not something that is left only to the jacket, tops, pants, skirts and dresses you wear; your look lies heavily on accessories. Stockings are one accessory that have the power to make your legs look fantastic simply by the color you choose and how you choose to wear them. Of course, if choosing the correct stocking for your outfit has the power to make you look great; the opposite can be said about poorly chosen stockings. The question is how to choose stockings that will make your legs look their absolute best.

1.Skirts that fall at the knee or an inch above the knee look best in sheer stockings. Do not wear opaque stockings with this length skirt; it will make you look frumpy. Be careful of wearing short skirts (4 inches above the knee) with nude stockings unless you are still in your 20’s, have great legs, or you are attending a party.

2.Thick, patterned, plaid, floral stockings are best used for artistic, funky looks. If you would like to bring a patterned stocking into your classic wardrobe the best way to do this is to wear them under pants, choosing a small print

3. When wearing short-sleeved and sleeveless tops or light sheer fabrics choose a nude/skin tone hose. Match the color of the hose as closely to the color of your skin as possible. Anything different than that will have an unnatural appearance.

4. Opaque stockings look best worn with long skirts and short skirts during fall and winter. Off-white or bone stockings will make your legs appear larger and are not usually a good choice.

5. Sandals or open shoes do not look great with opaque stockings.

These are just a few points to keep in mind when choosing your stockings. Another tip is to always keep an extra pair with you in case you get a snag or run. This is especially true if you are attending an important event or are being interviewed.

Shopping Tips: How to Get More for Less

Spending a lot on clothes or wearing designer labels does not guarantee that you will look chic; nor does having a large wardrobe guarantee it either. How good you look depends largely on what you choose to wear and how well it suits you. It may be the latest fad and look great on the department store model but not do anything for you. This is why it is important to know your body shape, the styles that accentuate it and how to create a fabulous look without spending a fortune.

1. Start your clothes shopping like you would shop for groceries – with a list. Take inventory of what you have in your closet and what new items will expand your wardrobe. Whatever you buy should match at least 3 other wardrobe pieces.

2. To get more for less, buy timeless basics and stay away from fads. For example, a skirt with layers of frills may be in style this season but be totally wrong for any season after. It will end up sitting in your closet and be on your “bad purchase” list.

3. If you are starting a working wardrobe and want to get a jump-start, try making black a basic color. It will be easy to coordinate with other items and always looks great.

4. Try on everything before you buy and make sure it feels comfortable. If it rides up, itches, is too tight or can only be worn on special occasions then it is not a good purchase.

5. Do not buy items that are 50 – 70% off if it is not something that you would want to buy at regular price. It is not a great deal if it doesn’t’ fit with your existing wardrobe. It will end up at the back of your closet.

6. Shop for what you need keeping quality in mind. Before buying take into consideration washing instructions. If you have to spend a lot on dry cleaning then your bargain is no longer a bargain. If you are afraid to wash it maybe it’s best left in the store and if it has cheap workmanship don’t buy it. Look for high quality at a lower price at the end of seasons.

7. To create a stunning image consideration must be paid to grooming such as hair, skin, teeth and makeup. The best outfit will look bad if the woman does not take care of herself otherwise.

How to Look Slimmer

No matter what their size, most women want to look slimmer. By wearing clothes that are appropriate for your body shape you can look as much as 10 pounds slimmer. For those who are tired of dieting or just can’t seem to lose those last few pounds choosing clothes that are right for you and suit your body type will make you look slimmer – instantly.

This is how it works; we are all built with our weight distributed in different places, which makes us unique. Manufacturers are not concerned about how clothes look on the average female but how it looks on models. They create fashion looks for the ideal body type. If you do not have the ideal shape and wear whatever is in style or looks great on someone else you may be hiding your assets and dressing to make yourself look bigger, out-of-proportion, or unattractive. The last thing we want to do is create a look that makes us appear larger or out-of–proportion; however, that’s what we do when we are not aware of the impact of line, design, proportion and color. Line and design is much more that wearing horizontal stripes, it is how the lines in the garment are formed, the shape and proportion of garments and how they are used to create the best look and how the lines of the body interact with the lines in clothes. Also, with color, it is not simply what color looks best on you (which is very important) but how color works with the lines of a garment to determine the final look.

Here are some general guidelines that will create a slimming look but is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to dressing to your full potential and looking slimmer.

Tips to Look Slimmer:

1. Don’t wear frills or extra material that adds bulk. Don’t wear bulky sweaters, or sweatshirts.
2. Avoid shiny fabrics such as velour and satin
3. To make your legs appear smaller wear dark hose. Don’t wear patterned tights.
4. Don’t wear oversized, shapeless clothing to hide bulges– they will make you appear larger instead.
5. Wear undergarments that have good support
6. Dress in monochromatic colors without patterns. Darker colors will make you appear smaller – navy, dark green, gray or black.
7. Avoid horizontal stripes. Thin vertical lines will give a slimming look.

Dress For Success

1. Treat your business clothing as an investment and choose wisely. Make sure you buy classic styles that suit your body shape, are comfortable, have quality workmanship and material. This is no time to consider the latest fads. Take your time and shop around for the best price and the best service. Be aware of the return policy and if possible purchase your wardrobe items at a store that can do professional alternations if necessary.

2. For business situations match your handbag, shoes and belt. Black shoes should be matched with a black handbag. This is not a time to get creative with your accessories or to wear colored shoes.

3. Do not neglect your outerwear. Purchase a good quality coat that can be worn with either pants or a skirt. For cooler weather don’t neglect your outdoor footwear. For skirts choose long knee-length boots.

4. Keep shoes and boots in a good state of repair. Scuffed shoes with worn heels will ruin the look of your outfit.

5. To complete your look choose soft leather gloves that will add a nice touch as well as keep your hands from getting chapped.

6. Choose clothing material that reflects the season. Heavy fabrics and tweeds are best for Fall and Winter and will look out of place during Summer, as light linen fabrics will look out of place during Winter.

7. Always wear a belt where there are belt loops. Choose a good quality leather belt and don’t be tempted to wear a flashy or plastic belt. If you don’t like belts choose pants without loops.

When you think of projecting a professional image, do you consider your posture? Most people don’t think of it, but the way we stand, sit, and move affects just how professional we look.
